UniFi App Review
UniFi security cameras to allow users to access camera footage.
This app is designed for quick access to livestream footage primarily; but also features short term recordings, multi view, and motion detection alerts to name a few. The app is extremely user friendly, with intuitive interface buttons such as a running person to signify filtering for movement on the recordings, a screen with multiple boxes labeled ‘Multi-View’ to signify seeing multiple cameras at once.
Speaking of the multi-view function, this leads me to the three things I would improve about this app if I could. First is there is no way to customize your preferred view on opening the app. It will always default to list view showing each camera angle in a list as seen above. This can be tedious when the app offers motion alerts to let you know there is movement on the camera, but if you select the alert, you still have to navigate to the movement section to see what footage the app is alerting you to view. It is also inconvenient to not be able to default to multi-view to see all of your cameras in one easy to view page like so:
The next improvement I would request would be to add more settings functions to the app. Right now you have to visit the UniFi website to access settings as the only ones available are for alerts and customizing the area in the camera that sets off movement alerts (Geofencing).
The third improvement I would make to this app would be to be able to customize the size of objects the app will flag for movement. In the app you can use the setting to customize where it checks for movement, but not if the movement is large enough to alert you. This becomes a problem at night when the camera light attracts bugs and a moth is causing multiple movement alerts. The only way around this is to disable the alerts all together.
